The idea of this contest is very simple:
You are to show the world how good you are with your hands!
This contest is for those who usually don't draw or write but like to craft things!
Please make sure you stay loyal to the [#THEME].

Contest Mods: [Lothuriel] and [Jitter]

Rules:

1. NO STOLEN ART!
Crafts must be created by Elftowners and posted here by the original artist. Which means, no matter how much you might like a particular craft you found online, you are not allowed to add it here. This includes random images from the net too. MAKE YOUR OWN DARN IMAGES, DON'T STEAL THEM AND TRY TO CLAIM THEM AS YOUR OWN! That makes us angry, very angry indeed.

You also NEED to take a proofphoto!

Proofphoto
To enter this contest you have to submit a new picture (it can be an old craft) combined with a proof picture with a bottle of water taken during the same photoshoot.
This is to prove that the craft is yours.
It would also be awesome if you could provide pictures while you're making it!
- If you want to submit an old craft you no longer have (sold, gifted etc.) you can enter it but only if you have pictures of it while making it, the bottle is not necessary!

2. QUALITY ISSUES
Please put forth your best effort and the best quality, i.e.
- No blurry pictures with webcams for your Crafts.
- Doll house kits, premade ceramics, miniatures, and action figures are NOT allowed. We want your designs and templates.

3. EACH MEMBER MAY SUBMIT TWO (2) ENTRIES.

4. ALL IMAGES MUST BE UPLOADED TO ELFTOWN!
To upload your image full-size you can use the feature 'Upload a folder of images' that is shown on your house.
This feature allows you to upload one, multiple images or zip-files in their original size to a wikipage.
<URL:upload_zip.html>
Once you click this link you can follow the instructions. See also uploading images.

5. SUBJECT MATTER AND MEDIUM
Since the winners will be featured on Mainstreet, entries that include graphic violence, pornography or other disturbing actions will not be accepted. Only entries that fit the theme will be allowed.

All applicable mediums will be accepted. (sculpting, cross-stitch, plushies, beading, fairy-tale costumes YOU made etc) if you have doubts about something feel free to ask!
No drawings, photo-manipulations or animations.
This is not a photography contest, so don't submit fairytale photography. We however of course accept photographs of your fairytale crafts work.

THEME

The theme of this contest is: 'Crafty Fairytales'
We want you to -literally- get your hands dirty and sculpt, carve, sew etc. something from your favourite fairytale!
We're open to all fairytales, but if you pick a lesser known fairytale you have to provide us with a link to the story.
If you're not sure, just ask us :)

Using kits or patterns you didn't create is not allowed.

Deadline:
The deadline of this competition is 2009-01-02

We will be picking two (2) images as the winners.

Ten images will be picked out by the Council and the Assembly among all those presented and a Mainstreet poll will tell the winner.
Participants will receive an art donor badge, and winners will receive a coloured version of the same (or a green/coloured Masters of Building badge if they are committed art donors).

2008-07-09 [Mordigen]: aw, dude, I'm totally making a Smaug Plushie ^.^

2008-07-09 [blood_fairy21]: this sounds fun!!

2008-07-09 [Jitter]: :D

2008-07-09 [Mordigen]: I agree, this does sound really really fun --- It'll be a bitch to judge though, because there's so much potential for such a huge range of items.

2008-07-09 [Jitter]: Indeed!

If there are loads of submission there might be a winner for sculpting, one for plushies etc.

I am just worried that people will try and cheat <<

2008-07-09 [Mordigen]: I'm sure they will -- there are always party poopers about :(

But I'll volunteer myself to help investigate on that matter if it becomes too big of an issue :)
(we have tons of that to do for the Herald, so I'm used to it :P it wont be any big deal for me to help out here too)

2008-07-09 [Jitter]: Thanks in advance ;)

2008-07-09 [Mordigen]: Or ya know what -- Why don't you just make it a requirement to show a *insert number* minimum of photos during the production process along with the proof photo?  That way, it'll rule out any cheaters because.....well ok, it'll be REALLY really hard to go to a store, buy something, and then FAKE making it ---- that's a ton more hassle then actually making it XP

2008-07-09 [Jitter]: Hahah! Indeed!
Actually it's the first contest (apart from the ECM ones) that older works are allowed. So it would be unfair for those who want to enter an old work. Unless they're like me and take screens and pics from whatever they're making :P

2008-07-09 [Mordigen]: aahhh....good point.

Well then -- my volunteering to help invesitgate is still open if it comes down to it :)

2008-07-09 [Jitter]: ;)

2008-07-12 [arthemis_]: OH I'm in, I'm in! This looks like a very very cool contest :D

2008-07-12 [Skydancer]: Hmmmmmmmm........ well, I do have some really nifty work but very old.... still... no reason I might not be able to make something fabulous as new work.. I need to get back to my magical crafting anyway.... :)

2008-07-18 [Thistlewood]: I have a guestion, excuse me if it's silly. If we provide pictures from while we are making it, does the water bottle need to be in the pictures?

2008-07-20 [Thistlewood]: Why do I have the funny feeling that my answer got eaten by
the latest crash?

2008-07-21 [Mordigen]: ggrrrrrr, I'm having such a hard time narrowing it down to only TWO *pouts*

2008-07-24 [Jitter]: No [Thistlewood]. If you have pictures of it while making it, the bottle is not necessary!

I probably should add that to the rules ^^; :)

2008-07-24 [Thistlewood]: Thank you!!

2008-08-08 [Jitter]: You're welcome!

2008-09-23 [Deleted1906721]: How did the deadline get moved from October 1st 2008 to January 2nd 2009? I don't think that is fair to the people that worked to make the old deadline, if I knew it was going to be extended to January I could have done a lot more with my entry and not had to rush to make the deadline...

2008-09-23 [Mordigen]: ok...wait...

how the hell is *extending* a deadline unfair? no one is stopping you from removing your submission and doing more with it now that you have the time.

2008-09-23 [Deleted1906721]: My entry is made of clay, it has already been baked and painted, so there's not a whole lot I can do! I'm saying if I knew I had until January I could have spent more time on it and done a few more things I didn't think I'd have time to do since the deadline was October 1st...

2008-09-23 [Mordigen]: ah, i see -- well..mm, maybe you can't edit it now, but maybe you can make another one of it that includes all the other thins you wanted to do with it now that you have more time -- or, you can always submit a second one, now that there is more time? :)

2008-09-23 [Jitter]: Well it either had to be extended or cancelled since there's not much point to judge only 3 entries. There was plenty of time in the first place and your entry was lovely. I'm very sad you decided to take it down and I hope you'll opt for puting it up again or make an even better entry if you wish :)

2008-09-24 [Mordigen]: there was a good ammount of time to begin with, I agree --- I just got so damn busy, i didn't even realize how busy I had gotten with real-life issues until I checked the calendar and just watched the days pile up. :(
I've got one entry finished, but I'm not quite sure it completely follows the theme.......I mean, in my opinion it does, but I'm not sure it would widely be accepted as a part of the theme or not -- plus, I don't have the best camera in the world, so I have to do a lot of clean-up and editing to the photo to get it to be properly presentable. I didn't even realize how much work THAT would take until I couldn't even squeeze in the time to do it :(

I surely hope she didn't just retract it completely because of a deadline extension, either. Maybe she's working on it, or plans to do something more with it to resubmit it.

2008-09-24 [Jitter]: If it's the Smaug plushie you mentioned above, I personally believe "The Hobbit" is one of the best fairy tales ever written ;)

2008-09-24 [Mordigen]: Well no, I didn't have the right materials to make the Smaug Plushie -- I made a jewelry piece. An Elf-Queen headress type thing....it is also from the hobbit, or at least, what I would imagine it would be like, as it itself was never directly mentioned in the Hobbit. That's where I was having some decrepencies -- does the item have to be specifically mentioned? As this was just something that I brewed up in my head that I would imagine an Elf Queen would be wearing :P

My second entry that I've been trying to work on, and keep messing up on is a Plushie of the Fireys from Labyrinth, but I'm having a bit of trouble with the lil fucker >;P

2008-09-24 [Jitter]: Hmmm, I think as long as it looks fairytaleish and elven I guess it will count :)

It'd be better if it was mentioned somewhere to be honest but I'll have to ask for sure

2008-09-24 [Mordigen]: Well I got plenty of extra time now, so if it doesn't count -- oh well, it was still fun to make, I can always make something else now if it wont qualify ;)

2008-09-24 [Jitter]: I'd say put it as a placeholder at least but also try and make something closer to the theme :D

2008-09-29 [arthemis_]: two entries hè? Maybe I make another one with the deadline extension.

2008-10-12 [Lothuriel]: I need to come up with something for this....

2008-10-12 [Jitter]: Yes you should! *forces*

2008-10-19 [Grandamelf]: Yea, we have more time!

2008-11-05 [Chrilith of Akhai]: Aw hell... I really want to make something for this, but I have so little time. =( Are... *ahem* rush-jobs allowed if you still put your best effort into them?

2008-11-06 [Jitter]: Sure x)

2008-11-06 [arthemis_]: hihi, rush jobs? December is a busy month, but sure you find some time ;)

2008-11-06 [Jitter]: I'm so sad we haven't got many nentries in this contest :(

2008-11-06 [Chrilith of Akhai]: Well, with a little luck there's going to be one more now. :3 For me, December is going to be less busy than usual, actually, but it's not quite what I'd like for a real craft.

2008-11-06 [arthemis_]: I'm making an second entry :)

2008-11-06 [Mordigen]: I'm still working on getting mine in - though, I have to admit, there is no guarantee :( Things have gotten more complicated than I expected lately, but I still have plans and every intention on entering

2009-01-03 [arthemis_]: aaahh too bad, I couldn't manage to finish my second entry in time :)

2009-03-15 [arthemis_]: Who won, who won?

2009-03-25 [Artsieladie]: Thank you for saying something here. It reminded me that I needed to place the winners on the page. :)
